The 2014 Body Confidence Awards - *Winners Update*

For every magazine article I read celebrating women of all shapes, sizes and looks, I spot dozens more featuring pictures of airbrushed models and celebrities, and other images of unrealistic beauty. No wonder low body confidence is a widespread problem!

Tonight in London, though, the spotlight will shine brightly on diversity and positive body image.
The 2014 Body Confidence Awards are taking place at the House of Commons and will recognise and celebrate those who are leading the way in promoting body confidence through education, health, media and advertising.

Selfridges – The Beauty Project, and Lancôme & Lupita Nyong’o, are both shortlisted for the Responsible Beauty Award.  Cosmopolitan and Guardian Body Image, meanwhile, are shortlisted for the Responsible Media & Advertising gong.  Presenters at tonight’s event include Jameela Jamil (pictured), Gok Wan and paralympian Stef Reid.

The awards are taking place during Body Confidence Week (which is happening now), and form part of ‘Be Real’, a campaign to change attitudes to body image.  The campaign was founded in partnership with Dove and is sponsored by brands including bareMinerals, Debenhams, New Look and Superdrug.  We can all support #BeReal. 3. My two older sisters are always moaning about how they look, they are beautiful, as Mummy tells them daily. There is too much pressure on girls to look 'perfect' x

    1. There is far too much pressure on young girls to look a certain way. This campaign I hope will succeed in helping to change attitudes towards body image. It needs doing! Tx

  4. I was a teenager when the 'waif' type models were popluar, Kate Moss, Jodie Kidd, etc. Consequently, I grew up thinking my size12 figure was hideous and it's only now I'm in my thirties that I realise the damage these unattainable images can be. I am right behind this campaign and hope it saves future generations from being unable to accept themselves for who they are.

    1. Thank you Louise. My daughter is just 9, so not yet at an age where she is so bothered about the way she looks. But I am dreading the time when that changes, as it most certainly will at some point :( Tx
