Giving or receiving little treats adds to the magic of Christmas, whether they come wrapped singularly or nestled snuggly within a stocking. While little beauty treats can often be expensive, it is possible to pick-up some nuggets for a tenner - or less!
Here’s nine for starters:
Yardley Contemporary Classics Hand Cream and Body Spray Collections – from £9
Four hand creams for £10, and four body fragrances for £9 – that’s pretty good value (and at time of post, they're at half-price on the Yardley website here). Plus both sets are delightfully presented in boxes inspired, of course, by the traditional English garden.
Beauty brands don’t come much more English than Yardley – it was established in London in 1770 and holds two royal warrants. Fragrances in the sets include English Lavender, English Rose and English Bluebell. Both collections are also widely available on the high street.
English Heritage by Woods of Windsor – from £4.99
Now, I have to claim a special interest here. One of the landmarks is Kenilworth Castle, a stone’s throw from where I grew up and where my parents still live (I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve visited).
So from the collection I’ve picked Tudor Rose, a fragrance inspired by the castle’s Elizabethan Garden, created by Robert Dudley to woo Queen Elizabeth 1 (a fascinating tale – do read-up if you don’t know it). Floral notes include rose, lily, iris, peony and violet – the fragrance is simply stunning!
The Room Fragrance is £9.99 (100ml), Wardrobe Sachets £4.99 (scent lasts up to six months), and Drawer Liners (5 in a pack) £9.99. Combine as a set or give individually. More info here.
nűgg Beauty, Holiday Stocking Set - £5.99
With mulled wine, chocolate and turkey being consumed to excess over the holiday period, our skin is going to be in dire need of a quick pick-me-up. Here’s the answer: single use face masks – travel-friendly, no waste and they will fix a variety of different skin issues.
As part of its Christmas 2016 collection, nűgg Beauty has put together a stocking set featuring two perfectly themed masks – Revitalizing and Hydrating . I raved about these pods of single use masks when I reviewed them in April here, including the hydrating formula. I can see myself calling on these next month - goodness, it’s just XXX days to Christmas! Aailable at Selfridges here (though out of stock at time of post).
Caudalie Vinosource Face Cracker - £10
One of the prettiest beauty crackers I’ve seen this year, this Caudalie number contains three hydrating Vinosource minis (we’re on a skin recovery theme again). There’s Thirst-Quenching Serum (10ml), Moisturising Sorbet (10ml) and Moisturising Mask (15ml).
Aside from looking the part at the Christmas dinner table, this would make a perfect little gift for dealing with skin dried out by too much central heating and brisk country walks in the cold Winter air. More info here.
Lanolips Tinted Balm SPF 30 Rhubarb Holiday Bauble - £7.99
How cute is this? Such a pretty bauble and inside one of the best lip balms I’ve ever tried – full review here. This one leaves a hint of colour on the lips (it contains natural rhubarb pigment), so we’re talking a deep, fruity pink. Plus it’s got a 30SPF – a round of applause (skin can still get sun damaged in Winter). Buy on the high street or online here.
The Real Shaving Co Travel Set - £5.99
All the essentials on board for the jet setting man: a face scrub, a shave cream and a moisturiser with an SPF15 (another big hand for that). All tubes are 50ml, so cabin friendly. It’s a three-step system, so scrub first to remove dead skin, then shave with the double concentrated cream to remove unwanted stubble, and finally hydrate with the anti-ageing moisturiser. The kit comes in a handy zip-top toiletry bag. Buy here.
